Re: ATA 100 drives for PowerMac?
Just bought a G4/466 woth an extra HD for audio, and on looking inside, the 7200 rpm drive is an IBM Deskstar. Couldn't say whether there's an extra controller card (although there are only two PCI slots occupied - one for Pro Tools and the other for graphics). Anyway, you clearly can use an IBM Deskstar.

ATA 100 drives for PowerMac?
Hello all.
I've been thinking about getting a PowerMac G4 for recording soon. One thing I've noticed is that the motherboard only supports the ATA66 drive standard. My question is: are there PCI card controllers out there that can take advantage of the ATA100 standard of the IBM Deskstar drives? Or is the PowerMac relegated to operate the drives by the slower ATA66 standard? Thanks! HL |
