Persistent 7.3 problems
OK so I've been poking around the board for a week or so trying to figure out how to get 7.3.1 to run seamlessly to no avail.
Here's the steps I've taken: Downgrade the operating system to 10.4.8 using Archive and Install Perform maintenance: Repair Permissions - Run all CRON scripts Complete uninstall ProTools and reinstall the 7.3 updater and then the 7.3.1 update, making sure that all the prefs and databases were deleted before the reinstall. Repair permissions again Removed the Auto Tune plug-in I have also tried running under a new user. And so far ProTools is still running poorly. This is what it's doing: Running out of CPU power on a very lightweight session - maybe 10 tracks max with very few plug-ins - a few of the tracks have 4 plugs but the rest have only one if any. I am using the standard Bomb Factory plug-ins with Auto Tune being the only third party plug. Playback Settings: I have tried multiple settings - every buffer setting, 1 or 2 processors, 1 processor 99%, 2 processors 85% (seems to be the default), all of them blow up pretty quickly. It is also losing connection with the MBox regularly - I have it plugged into the left side nearest to me USB port. What seems to be a guarantee of getting the CPU to overload is tweaking the 4 or 7 band EQ graphically - pulling the different frequencies around. I always used the 4 band EQ in 7.1.1 which was not a graphical representation of the EQ and was perfectly happy with that. Is this new plug a lot heavier of a system hog? Because that's what it seems like. So unless I have missed something obvious I am about to go back to 7.1.1, which ran seamlessly and I could apply multiple plugs without getting anywhere near CPU overload. My specs are in my sig. Any thoughts before I take the backward leap? Thanks in advance. peace

Re: Persistent 7.3 problems
Congrats on a very complete post.
It seems you did everything exactly right. Maybe someone else can spot a flaw. Seems like many are not excited about the CPU usage of 7.3. Maybe it is not optimized yet for the Intel processors. I was getting better performance on a 001 with a 400 mHz G4.

Re: Persistent 7.3 problems
That's not good I was thinking about going from 7.1cs10 to 7.3 to get better CPU performance.
Thanks PowerMac G5 DualCore 2.3 with 4.5 GB of Ram, running Tiger 10.4.8 (PPC), DIGI 002 with ProTools LE 7.1cs10, Digidesign Music Production Toolkit, Digidesign Producer Factory Bundle. Xpand, Hybrid, Strike |

Re: Persistent 7.3 problems
Update - downgraded to 7.1.1 and that is going to be fine for me right now. This is just a hobby for me so I don't take things too seriously. Just want to be able to write my songs without struggling too much and this seems like the ticket for now.
peace

Re: Persistent 7.3 problems
The past few weeks I have seen several studios and tours still with 7.1. Perhaps 7.3 is not quite ready for prime time.

Re: Persistent 7.3 problems
In the past few weeks I saw the Henson Studios (former A&M Records) and Mary J. Blige's tour use 7.1. Watching this forum seems to show more problems with 7.3.x on Intel systems. I have a G4 and 7.3.1cs2 is working fine.
