Default Remote listening

I have a client that wants to listen in remotely from another state as we record vocals on their song. What's the easiest set up to do this? I have a new mac desktop with ProTools 12 and a mac laptop also (which I could use for Skype)

Help me Obi Wan

I usually send a 320KBs mp3 via email. Once they feel its a "final", then I will upload the wave via dropbox, one drive, etc.

He wants live listening.

We use ipdtl:

ipdtl.com

And sourceconnect:

http://source-elements.com/products/source-connect

ipdtl has been amazing since the day we began using it a couple years ago. That's my suggestion. Conversely, we've been using sourceconnect for, what, over a decade now, and it *still* gives us trouble (dropouts) though we've contacted tech support >10 times and had them log-in remotely to assist more than once.

If these are for two-way communication and may be overboard - if your client just wants to listen and not speak back through the digital connection then you could look into the Source-Live version, which sends a signal which your client could log into and hear, albeit with a delay, but it's free. Or at least it used to be.

We use source live and Skype at the same time. Works fine. No monthly fee.

Rogue Amoeba's Nicecast is probably the cheapest and easiest. Source Connect is a more professional solution and will have lower latency, if it matters.

How do you route ProTools audio thru Nicecast? Avid isn't good about allowing PT audio into 3rd party apps.

pretty sure i used SoundFlower .. i might have had to do a patch to it .. it has been awhile .. if someone is going to use it i can do a test and see how it all works for them .. if not going that direction i will not bother with it ..

but happy to test away .. let me know ..

In my case, my HD I/Os route to a Metric Halo via AES, but you might be able to hack something together with Soundflower or Source-Nexus.

Nicecast procedure ...

1) Open Pro Tools Session
2) Open Nicecast
3) under source choose Application / Pro Tools
4) Open Share .. and copy internet link
5) send to recipient ..

if you would like to listen on your phone right now i am broadcasting David Bowie Black Star directly from Pro Tools Timeline right now .. i will leave it up for a bit .. it is on a Loop ..

http://104.172.179.133:8000/listen.m3u and i was told by Amoeba that you might need to take off parts of the address like just use http://104.172.179.133:8000/ or http://104.172.179.133:8000/listen

i can do this at a specific time later if others would like to try listening in for quality or to check connection ..

just let me know what time is good Pacific Time please .. i can create a little radion station and play a few tunes ..
