It's been 288 days (as of this posting) since Pro Tools 12 was released on March 23, 2015.

Pro Tools collaboration features are advertised as "Coming Soon" on the Avid web site here: http://www.avid.com/US/products/pro-...tware#Features

Which leads me to ask... how long is "Coming Soon?"

To be clear, I'm grateful for Track Freeze and Commit features but this is hardly what was promised originally to subscription plan members.

well to clarify, im just angry about them not keeping a promise, even though this feature is something I absolutely don't even care about. It's just an attempt to stay "fresh" with the cloud trend that absolutely failed in terms of them getting a working one out

It's not something that you can just drop and then work out the kinks. Avid's broadcast and Film clients cannot afford security breaches and corrupted files. And neither can anyone else.

Security is a big deal. Microsoft still has yet to support Thunderbolt on Windows because they have not worked out the security issues that can be a deal blow for their corp clients. Something they have been promising for over a year now as well. Pete from Microsoft is active in the windows 10 thread on GS.

Keeping a promise with something utterly broken is far worse than being seriously late.

Indeed.

I'm not sure Avid's new corporate management completely understood the complexity of professional media production software at the time they started promoting this. Avid has had a very successful broadcast and graphics cloud collaboration service for over a decade so it's logical to try and have the rest of their customers working with this infrastructure investment. Considering that the buzz-words "cloud," "collaboration" and "everywhere" are all the rage among tech stock investors these days, collaboration is low hanging fruit they probably assumed shouldn't require more than minor modifications to Pro Tools and Media composer that would turn them into clients. It's pretty obvious this must be taking way way longer than they anticipated. Because they are just about the most experienced people in the field, it could be really really good but there's no way to expect them to put it ahead of the reliability of Pro Tools and Media Composer.

exactly, which is why i stated before, they prematurely announced it like a year ahead, and I'm pretty sure they weren't even aware of how much work would have to be put into this. Seriously when tehy made the announcmenet, they didnt think it through and now theyre just lingereing

I think it was a pretty honest mistake.

I'm excited to see how this feature works. This could definitely lead to more networking opportunities and paid gigs if executed properly.
