Default Eleven Rack - Stand Alone interface - Mute Input

Hello Avid Forum,

Am new to the board - so hello . I did try to find this specific problem on the board, and couldn't find a thread that answer my question - so figure I start a new one.

I just got a new computer - and am running Pro-Tools 10 on it (switched from cubase / PC system) . I have had the Eleven Rack for about a year and a half - but haven't plugged it in yet . SO now here I am .. Loving the computer - digging Pro-Tools (have worked on it before at the studio I work at - but this is for my home studio) ... I have been able to figure out input - reamping and all that cool stuff - Even how to record in Reason 6 ..

My problem is that I can't figure out how to MUTE the input coming in when I use the Eleven as my audio interface . Basically I'm working on a Reason track (without protools) and I keep hearing the input of the guitar - which is lovely of course, but would like to get rid of the hiss while trying to focus on other instruments. Is there a stand alone interface of Eleven that allows me to mute the input ? Or do I have to open up Pro-Tools and then mute it ? I see the Eleven Rack in System preferences - but is no way to mute / access inputs here .

Any suggestion would be highly appreciated .

Thanks

Why not mute the track that the input you don't want to hear is coming in on?

Not quite sure what your saying here.

Hey Zedhead -

thanks for the response.

I think the issue is actually that the Eleven rack is sending an output signal regardless (MAIN OUT - XLR to 1/4" Stereo) to my mixer (which goes out to monitor speaker) - I was hoping to use the Eleven Rack as an Audio Interface but can't figure out how to control the Audio Interface 11R outside of PT 10 .

I could use PT10 & rewire Reason as is - but then how do I use the 11R as an Interface to Reason 6 ?

let me know if that made sense to you, and thanks for your help

With Reason rewired into PT the 11R interface is automatically used in reason. No need to set it up in Reason.

This way you should be able to mute any unwanted tracks.

A standalone 11R editor is a highly requested feature but alas to date, it hasn't materialized. Having said that, I'm still not sure if that would provide the solution you are looking for.

Are you just recording guitar and then wanting to use Reason VI's?

It may help to explain what external mixer you're using and how you are using it. Is it for extra I/O & monitoring purposes only, or as a control surface for recording or both? Exactly how have you connected it all together? I get the output from 11R>Mixer>Monitor but what about inputs.

Hey Zedhed (sorry i misspelled your name previously)

It may help to explain what external mixer you're using and how you are using it. Is it for extra I/O & monitoring purposes only, or as a control surface for recording or both? Exactly how have you connected it all together? I get the output from 11R>Mixer>Monitor but what about inputs. ----

This is my basic signal flow right now :

11R (IN) guitar
11R - USB to Imac
11R - OUT L/R Main outputs -> Small behringer Mixer ( :-( spent all my money on the mac / PT) --> To main Monitors (Yamaha HS 80)

I was trying to control this in my Audio Devices on Mac (where I see):

Built in Mic
Built in Input
Built in Output
Avid CoreAudio Device
Pro-Tools Aggregate I/O (12in 8out)
Avid Eleven Rack (8in / 6out)

There are switches for mute - volume - value - dB etc, but can't seem to access that . CLOCK SOURCE - Internal...

So i'm thinking that the 11R basically feds the output all the time - and that I need PT to be open to change the input source ( I was able to mute the input / output by opening PT first - then close PT and then open reason). just wish there was a simpler way - or a standalone 11R mixer

Thanks for you help -
