Default I hope someone can help...

High;

I have a Mac 8100 that i would like to put my old Sound Tools hardware into. I learned after i bought it that it had the "wrong" chipset to work with my Sound Accelerator card (the Nubus Sound Tools card). How do i go about upgrading/changing this chipset so that i can use my legacy hardware?

Thanks a million;

JPW

It's been quite a few years since we carried these alternate PALs. In case you find someone out there with an older card, here's what you'd look for:

Location U28 - 1.00A
Location U27 - 2.01A

Keep in mind that these were created to allow the SAII to work in the original Mac II, Yhough they also helped the card work in some of the 'newer' Quadra's and NuBus PowerMac's, there were never officially tested or supported with those computers.

Thank you very much for your reply. I'm really sorry i'm not sure i understand the solution you refer to. What is a PAL and are these locations you mention addresses on the motherboard? In other words are you saying that i need to replace the motherboard in my 8100?

Thank you;

JPW

The PALs I referred to are chips on the SAII card. The Mac II had different NuBus timing than the other Macs, so we created alternate chips for the SAII so that it would be compatible with the Mac II. Installing these alternate chips also seemed to allow the SAII to work in some of the 'newer' NuBus computers as well. Hope that helps clarify things.
