Default Restoring DATa backups

Anyone know how to restore ProTools sessions archived on Digi's old DATa utility that backed up tracks by interleaving them on a DAT tape?

I recall using DATa with my AM3 card and the spidf ins and outs on my DAT recorder. I think it was only for SD2 files, I saved the session file separately on some other media. DATa was an OS9 program. DATa was a good little program although it ran in real
time. I still have my AM3 card if you're interested.

You'd need to use the DATa program to restore your backups from DAT back to a hard drive. Do you still have the app and a machine to run it on?

You needed a copy of the session file as well as the DATa dat tape.

In those days the session file was kept on a floppy.

I still have a system setup that can recover those files.

IF the backup was at 44.1, and you don't have the floppy, not all is lost. You can trqnsfer the information back into Pro Tools Or Sound Designer and remake your edits.

If the DATa session was at 48k, you will have a bit more difficulty because the sample rate will be off.

I was given an old G3 running 8.6 with an Audiomedia III card just recently. Finally I have a chance to restore an old session backed up wth DATa, but it seems the version I have on backup is 3.01 which is not PCI-compatible.
Searched high and low, but cannot find a way to download the latest version 3.1 ("03/21/97 version 3.1 (PCI version"). Anyone know how to get this?

Thanks!

Thanks Jeff!
When I run it, DATa says: 'Unable to find any DSP cards". I'm sure it's an Audiomedia III in slot 0 and Digitest returns no errors.. This is on a beige G3 desktop model running 8.6. Anything I'm missing?

DATa 3.1 launched for me on a Quicksilver G4 (OS 9.2.x) with an AMIII.

Does it show all slots greyed out in the prefs?

What is the DigiSystem INIT version (System Folder > Extensions)?

Have you trashed the DigiSetup pref (System Folder Preferences)?

Hi Jeff: it took me a while to dig up all my old installers and get the system up to 9.2.2 with the standard install of PT5.1 fro the original CD-ROM. DATa 3.1 now shows and I can set preferences and start the procedure. However, if I choose 'Get info' (or 'Batch Restore' for that matter) it just shows 'reading header' and nothing happens. I verified that the DAT was connected properly by launching PT to see if the SPDIF-input actually shows juice, and it does.

I'm pretty sure about what's on the tape (I'm a freak when it comes to proper labeling) so what gives?
Btw.: the data sounds like quad-speed pitched up audio... If this recovery failes, would the raw audio-data be useful by pitching it down in any way?

Thanks for helping out here... it's been a trip down memory-lane so far...

Did you try Restore as well?

Are all the slots greyed out in the Card pop-up in File > Preferences?

What DigiSystem INIT version is installed?

DATa actually plays the audio out after the header (file info), so you could probably just do a digital transfer from the DAT. If you selected "Interleave Mono Files" when you did the backup, then it alternates samples to the L and R tracks. There might even be a way to fix that.
