Default HD fragmentation: PT5 or HFS+

Hi
When using PT4.3 i noticed that the fragmentation was very low after let's say one day of work on a session ("clean" disk at the beginning".

When switching to 5 (LE), i reformatted my audio drives in HFS+ (to economize fades size). Now after a day of work on a 30mn film there's a huge number of fragmented files (yesterday: 152 for a total of 562).

Is this due to the way Pt5 manage the files or the HFS+ format?

thanks in advance
Jean

GUGU,

I would avoid using HFS+ for now. Digi just recently apoved it, so you can bet there are still some bugs. I work with very large files, that have tons of fades all the time. HFS has always worked fine for me.

Hi,

I've formatted two HDs of my SCSI chain in HFS+, and two in HFS. Three records, a film score and some TV cues later I can't tell any difference in performance, other than a slight space saving advantage on the HFS+. No bugs, glitches or errors. The drives have undergone heavy editing, particularly during the film score. One note: they are connected to the internal SCSI bus of my 9600, there is no ATTO or Adaptec card involved, don't know if that matters.

thanks guys for replying

i made some more tests since the other day. The results seem to show that pt5 is creating more fragmented files than pt4. I did the same edits on the same (clean) disk, and the fragmented files appear with the pt5 edit while the pt4.3 always write on free space.
Tech support, any idea?

regards
