Default Ducking

question: i recently read an article about ducking (in my case, putting the kick drum through a compressor and hooking the bass signal through the sidechain.)

now i understand how to do this through my outboard compressor (dbx 266xl) but is it possible to do this using a compressor plug-in? if someone knows, please let me know.

you need a compressor plug in which allows external keying. send your drums to a bus of your choice and then select the same bus on the plug in's external key pop up. not the kick drum should make the bass duck whenever the kick hits.

Standard digirack copmpressor gate and limitter allow for external key signals...

set it up like this:

-compressor on the bassguitar's track
-send the basedrum to a bus (through one of the sends..., and make sure there are no other signals on that bus.
-click on the key-button on the plugin to turn it on, and select the proper bus at "key-input"
-now set the compressor until you are happy with the results

In essence Equality 7-2521 said the same btw....

I've never known anyone to duck the kick with the bass....just the bass with the kick (kick into sidechain input, bass into comp input).
