Mystery edits
ok, this is not only blowing my mind, but it is causing me unbelievable trust issues (i already don't trust computers).
i have one song (on a 7 song mix only project) i'm having problems with. scenario - files are all consolidated from the same start point. my assistant created a brand new session (for every song) he setup the songs how we always do. he did some "window mutes" on the vocals to get rid of headphone bleed and unwanted noise. i mix the song. client says vocals are missing. open session, using trimmer tool, i drag all vocal edits back out and find many things that were edited. (proceed to yell at assistant). now, band sends recall notes. i open the session, immediately do a "save as" (adding a higher revision number) and i notice that all the "fixed" edits are gone. vocals are missing again. fix it, move on with my life. second round of recalls come in. open revision 2 session doc, save as, new revision number (3). vocals are missing. exact same edits. i fix it, save it. mix is approved. open session to print final mix and all versions. vocals are missing again. i have been a pro tools user for 12 years. i have never once seen anything like this. any ideas? mac pro Harpertown 3.2gig 8 core. 24gig ram. Re: Mystery edits
When you fix it, have a look at the region list. Display the full path name. Are all the sounds where they are supposed to be? Also, when it's fixed, try consolidating again.

Re: Mystery edits
Yeah I've had similar to this. It'll be a corrupt session, it happens on rare occasions. Also had it when running Elastic Audio "live". Also had it when moving between computers and/or drives. It's all 1s and 0s. Definitely consolidating helps. I usually clean up a track and re-consolidate straight away.
Not sure I've ever mixed a track without noticing at some point that the lead vocal is missing before sending it to the client though, so hats off to you for that |
