Default Compression kills Clip Gain

I'm heavily compressing a track that has clip gain increased at the chorus. Because Clip Gain is pre-insert, the compressor is yanking the volume back down so it has no effect on output volume - it's just squashing.

Is there a way to do clip gain post insert without automation? I need complete fader control and don't want to mix thru Trim Plugins or Trim Automation.

Ahm, well that's the whole idea about clip gain - that it's part of the clip and therefore pre insert.

For post insert you have volume automation and trim automation. So if you want to still be able to use your faders for mixing, make the adjustment in the trim automation section and leave the volume automation untouched.
Or setup an aux, which you can use to control the fader for mixing, and write the volume automation on the track.
Or automate the input control of your compressor.
Or use a VCA-track.

Your problem is exactly what I like about clip gain. I can make sure the audio is hitting the compressor at the same level all they way through. Then I use volume automation for dynamics.

You could even things out with Clip Gain and then convert it to Volume Automation, then process with Inserts.
