How can I protect my iLok Key?

Hello

I've just received my boxed version of protools 9, I installed it, everything is fine but I'm affraid I could damage or corrupt the data that came in my pre authorized iLok Key if anything goes bad.

How can I protect the iLok, I mean the data inside? in case the authorization gets corrupted how can I retrive it. I don't have any iLok account since my iLok key came preauthorized in the boxed version. Should I opne an iLok accont.

Of course this is my first time using iLOk so any help will be appreciated.

Yes, open up an iLok account and sync that iLok to it.
Get the zero downtime plan for it ($30 per year), which will grant temp licenses if the iLok becomes damaged.

Open an iLok account, and then buy "Zero-Downtime" from Pace. It's cheap, and will give you peace-of-mind should disaster strike. It does require that you keep a second, blank iLok handy.

I also insure my iLok separately since so many of the assets are so valuable.

I've heard of iLoks going down, but I've been using iLok since 2001 and have personally never had a problem. Great technology.

You say that I will need a blank iLok. I can purchase that blank iLok from their web site too? will they send it to me to my country?

You don't need a blank iLok. If you already have an iLok and an iLok account, your current iLok will be fine.

And don't forget to protect it physically. Say if you use a laptop, get a "dongle buddy" which is a short USB cable so the iLok is dangling and can't get busted off in the port if someone walks by and bumps the computer. Desktop users worried about someone stealing the iLok can use the cable and run it inside the computer so the iLok is not easily grabbed. Some aftermarket USB cards actually have a handy port on the inside

My biggest concern is to corrupt the data on the iLok, not a physical damage but one never knows.

I've seen iLoks brake
I haven't seen them corrupt

make your self an iLok account ASAP

Pre-authorized but likely unregistered. You need to register it when you create your account.
