Pumping compressor/gate on the Kick drum
Can i do the Kick/Gating thing in Protools whereby in Dance Music you can get the kick drum to "punch out" the Main mix so that the main mix "ducks" slightly on every kick to give that Pumping effect in Dance music?
Please, what do i patch where to where?? a step by step guide would be ace, im getting in a right muddle?! Thanks |

Re: Pumping compressor/gate on the Kick drum
Well, I would never do this as I hate that effect, BUT if it works for you, bounce your entire mix-minus the kick track. Put a compressor plugin on the mix track and trigger it from the kick track(maybe open a new session for this and import the bounced mix and the kick track). If you have a plugin that does ducking, that also works the same way. Or mix with the kick a little overmixed and use a master L/R compressor, or add a sidechain eq with a boost at 75Hz so the kick drum triggers more. Not sure which will work best but you have some ideas to try. Good luck.
