10 HDX crashing
With a single HDX card, a 12 core Westmere fully loaded, an 8x8 analog, I am routinely getting "quit unexpectedly" and beachball freezing. I will get the buffer size warning on playback when I am already at 1024. I will go to 512 (with nowhere else to go) and it will be better for a while or a day before it again wants me back to 1024 and so on. I record in my home studio at 48/32 float with 2 instrument tracks for SD2 and Xpand and maybe 40 audio tracks sparsely populated with 6 to 8 aux tracks for effects(Lexicon and Digi). Little in the way of inserts - a digi eq, a UAD, VCC and Studer800 on 15 tracks(?).
I could assign aux tracks to reduce count as I did in the mbox/PC days, but I paid the money I did so I could be a wasteful slob with impunity. It aint happening yet. The sound is excellent, can't deny. Any thoughts? I haven't seen much in the way of HDX discussions here. Thanks |

Re: 10 HDX crashing
First thing is to stop recording in 32 float. It's pointless.
It's meant to be "turned on" later for people that are doing lots of extreme clip gain (and plan to coalesce it) and/or Audiosuite processing. All you're doing now is needlessly making all your audio files way bigger with no benefit since your converters aren't outputing a 32bit signal. |

Re: 10 HDX crashing
I was told by my guy at Avid that the Lexicon plugs are a bit problematic at the moment. Might be causing some issues.

Re: 10 HDX crashing
Make sure you have the latest build of SD2... there was a bug in a previous build with non 44.1kHz sessions.
SD2 is 44.1kHz native.. at any other sample rate it's converting the sample rate. Also keep an eye on your RAM usage... PT10 is still a 32 bit app. Rail

Re: 10 HDX crashing
I think it's a plugin compatibility problem. I assume you're on Lion.
I can run Superior Drummer 2 and 6-8 Kontakt instruments with 20 audio tracks at a buffer of 64. Carl
