Default Huge 500 MB .ptx

Anyone experienced a HUGE growing .ptx?

Can't say when or what, but the .ptx gradually started growing, and Growing and GROWING! The session obviously becoming more and more sluggish and slow and lazy and unworkable.

I didn't notice the huge .ptx size until I started looking for the cause of the sluggishness.

One odd error message pops up which I've never seen before "TPlayListCommand"
And occasionally a "Low memory warning"

Sssstrange...

No plugins at all
10 stereo tracks and 4 mono.
1.8GB in the audio files folder.

Occurred on PT 2019.5
Mojave

Same thing opening the .ptx on Catalina and PT 2020.3

Woha.

Someone was just talking about this... I believe it had to do with a plugin, perhaps Autotune?

Yes. but that normally requires you be using Autotune in the session.

But corrupt sessions can do this, maybe with or without involvement from plugins.

So first thing should be to try Save Session In or importing the session into a new session and see what happens.

I had that once, when I created new region groups including already existing region groups. When you have a region group in a region group in a region group... I did that once without thinking about it and my ptx started to grow up to approx 1 GB until it couldn't be opened any more. When I deleted the track with these groups all went back to normal.

Wow. Thanks for your insights.

I suspect it's the clip group inside clip groups, inside clip groups thing then. It's not my session and when I looked at it I remember mentioning "you've got a lot of clip groups!" :)

Hmm.. probably should be considered a bug though. Memory leak or whatever they call it inside the matrix.

I created a ticket with avid, see what they have to say about this.

There’s nothing wrong with protools, it’s about cleaning up house. Clips usually refer to the whole audio file not just the clip. You could use the command to just use the visible audio files, but you would have to commit. Don’t ask where the command is; Do your homework.

Question remains: are there instantiations of Waves Tune (or Autotune) in the session?

Thanks, nothing a good textbook lookup wouldn’t solve. Money doesn’t grow on trees.
