I just moved to PT12 from pt10. I have mixed surround/stereo sessions and I don't understand why this option has been removed.

Yes, and everyone does, but it's the back and forth between sessions that are stereo and surround. PT doesn't automatically switch things for us like it used to.

We miss this option badly.
Is Avid contemplating to get this feature back ?

We have 15 Pro Tools HD workstations in our setup.
We used to have one I/O setup for each room which never changed.
This made it easy for us and all external sound engineers which are not so familiar with our setup.
Now when going back and forth between different workstations the IO becomes a real mess.
