Re: Let's clear the air, folks...
Micks come on do you really think that your HD3 is just gonna stop working for no F@*!in reason!? It won't, so you have computer and HD3 that is stable and working just fine, 5 years from now that same system will still be running! just cause you can't update your drivers or cs updates does not mean your system just stops!

Re: Let's clear the air, folks...
Fooks, I have Cubase, too... But I love PT, because of its design and stability... I'll stick with 8.x now. I'd pay max. $400 for an upgrade to keep on track now, but $1,500 ist just way too much, some features even don't work with my HD Accel. That's the point. Why upgrade the software now, if the hardware upgrade (which will be mandatory beyond PT 10) will include the software (hmm Avid, hopefully???)... Or what's your plan for the future
But yes, you're right... I can work with the actual system as well... like I did with PT 5.1 for about 10 years

2. You guys keep up with these week car analogies. For one, car sales do not work on the same upgrade system as software, and software doesn't get traded in like a car does. Secondly, you're comparing a POS car that came out when pubic hair was cool in porn to software that came out 11 months ago. Thirdly, car sales are rarely ever the same. Depending on the time of the month, another customer can come in with a trade the same exact year, color, configuration, and condition as your Eldarado and get more for his trade, AND pay LESS for the same exact new model than you did all from the same salesman depending on how bad the dealership needs the sale at the time. That or the other customer can just go to a different dealer and get a better deal than you. This is how car sales work. It's nothing new to anyone. Software doesn't work like that. When you invest in one car, you're not investing in the future versions of that model like you do with software. You can simply just buy from a different manufacturer without having to relearn the process of driving. Besides, dealers don't do "upgrades" anyway. Your trade is worth what it's worth according to a Kelly Blue Book standard which has nothing to do with the dealer. Therefore you're analogy is void!

Re: Let's clear the air, folks...
Micks, if you agree with using PT9 till the tires fall off, and admitted you used PT5.1 for 10 years then why are you bitchin'? If you think the upgrades in 10 are not worth the price then why sit in the corner whinning that you don't have 10? If it's too much in your eyes don't buy it. Everyone is just assuming PT11 is gonna be the same as far as upgrade price goes, maybe it will, but maybe it won't! its that simple. Get it or don't, either way [bleep][bleep][bleep][bleep] like this thread of people trying to throw gas on a fire and throw tantrums IS depressing and discouraging.

Re: Let's clear the air, folks...
Ebay is the kelly blue book for software, I can find older versions of software on there that is much cheaper than the new shiny version. Why do you guys all think that when you buy into pro tools you have to feel like you invested into future versions. That's not why, you buy it cause it kicks ass. Nobody is holding you to pro tools. Move to something else if you don't like the price. Stay where your at with what you got, thats the freedom we have in america, just like Avid has the freedom to charge hire prices for their product. You don't like it....move on.

Re: Let's clear the air, folks...
It had more major upgrades for native users. ADC alone is worth as much as what's included in 10 native. Not to mention hardware decoupling. PT10 is obviously better, but from an upgrade perspective, 9 was a bigger upgrade than 10 is. 10 gives you basic features that should have been in PT years ago, but 9 gave you MAJOR features that should have been PT years ago. Sure 32-bit float is cool, but I can just as easily keep my tracks at a moderate level to prevent clipping. Point is, I need some what 10 offers, but that doesn't mean I should have to pay an unfair price or just stfu and use 9 til it dies!

Re: Let's clear the air, folks...
Because until the hardware decoupling this was infact the case. And personally, even though some other brand may have better hardware than what Avid offers, I'd still rather use Avid hardware with Pro Tools for maximum compatibility. And when guys are dropping $10K+ on a C24 or some accels, this is most certainly the case.
