Default DVD-RAM storage?

I'm waiting around for digi to update the 001 software for the G4 dual procesors. Wondering if the DVD-Ram would be something to spend an extra $300 on. Is anyone using it for storage? Does it work? Comments?

I heard that it was extremely slow and the disks are quite expensive

Yes it's slow. And yes, the disks cost 30 to 40 bucks a piece. But I use it for long-term storage of projects I've finished but don't have the heart to erase completely. Even after a project is mastered and mass produced, I just don't want to get rid of my tracks -- and I don't see the point in buying a new SCSI or Firewire hard drive for every project I ever take on. Now THAT would really be expensive. So DVD Ram seems like a pretty good option to me.

Hi there, I use DVD to back up my sessions, it takes about 15 to 18 minutes for a session with 24 tracks and a few Sample Cell sounds. It's been pretty reliable so far and I back up to the dual sided DVD cartlidge which takes about 3 to 4 sessions per side depending on how big each session is.
