Getting PT to run well can be a significant effort.
This is my 'hard drive' set up (internal drives):

256GB mSATA SSD Boot + 750GB 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s

I am confused - as most forum posts I see state that I should NOT install on the boot drive - assuming this is where my operating system is?

Boot = C:\ drive
'Data' = D:\ drive

Can someone clarify?

Thanx

I am willing to bet you lots of money that most forum posts do *not* say install the Pro Tools software on a different disk drive than boot/system. You need to be careful how you read this stuff.

---

The Pro Tools software (e.g. the executable and library files etc.) *must* be installed on the Windows boot/system drive. The installer will do this by default. Don't mess with it.

Your audio/session files need to be on a separate dedicated drive that meets the Pro Tools audio drive specs (most important requirements are that drive is a 7,200 rpm HDD or an SSD).

Before doing anything else post a SiSoft Sandra report here as described in the "Help us Help You - READ THIS Before Posting!" above on this web page. See many other posts all over DUC too see what these reports should look like.

You're either interpreting information incorrectly or being provided (by a minority) incorrect information.

Definitely install PT on system/boot drive and record to another drive.

+1 billion!!!

Just to drive this one some more, absolutely do NOT install PT anywhere except on the system drive.

  • Program Files <-- 64-bit
  • Program Files (x86) <-- 32-bit
Allow the installer to install PT in the default locations that are already predetermined.

Just to add to this, to avoid any possible confusion...

Windows 64-bit can run 32-bit programs. Those programs get installed to Program Files (x86).

An example of this would be Pro Tools 10 (which is 32-bit) and Pro Tools 11 (which is 64-bit).
  • Pro Tools 10 is installed to C:\Program Files (x86)\Avid\
  • Pro Tools 11 is installed to C:\Program Files\Avid\
