Default Fire Wire Port(s?)

Hey,
Im running a Macbook Pro 2010 model with Pro Tools LE 8 using an Mbox 2 Pro.
My mac book has one fire wire 800 port but i have found out that for optimum efficiency it is wise to have a firewire hard disk...
so my question is this. is there a way to run both the Mbox 2 pro and an external fire wire hard drive with only one firewire 800 port???

yes you just daisy chain them together, come out of one and into the other, easy.

This. And you should hook it up computer > hard drive > interface. This is simply so that if the interface gets turned off for any reason you won't be taking any chances in corrupting your drive(s).

I would recommend this hard drive for your situation:

You would first need a firewire 800 to 400 adapter cable (available at many music stores or online). You would go from that to the hard drive 400 port, then from the second 400 port to the Mbox 2 pro.

Bigdrum,

That works fine for the 002/003, but in another thread on the forum, DigiTechsupport stated that for the Mbox 2 Pro, it can have issues with fw800 anywhere in the chain, so he recommended keeping it 400 the whole way. That's why I recommended that drive.

I see there are two fire wire outputs on my Mbox 2 pro. But one of this says midi on them so can that still be used to daisy chain a hard disk?

MIDI refers to the ports above the FW ports, and has nothing to do with this.

The Mbox should be the last thing in your chain. That way if there is a problem with it your hard drive won't be affected.
