Thanks y'all, both suggestions are very helpful. However, there is no global folder preference that we can select to define the behaviour of the folder opening operation a'la Windows ?

1. Launch your program (eg Protools)
2. Hold down Apple key and type O (as in open)
3. Navigate the Box until you get to the file you want to open
4. Press "Open"
5. Rock & Roll!

Default OT: Mac question ...

Hi,
does anyone know how I can set my mac to not open every directory in its own window. It is really cumbersome to have to close each one of them if the only window you need is the final destination directory that you're going to.

thanks,

The way I do it is to open the folder, then select VIEW->AS LIST. Now using the little triangles on the left you can open/close folders and get to your files without opening a bunch of windows. Once you start working this way, you'll never go back.

Hope this helps.

Busch.
