Hi

Co-install on thesame drive and partition is only possible with 10.8.5 and PT10/12 or PT10/11.

I a m sure someone will come here and say that they have it working but if you want to have a supported system and a working system then keep to the official Avid information which is the above alternatives.

So NO to the El Cap co-install.

What happens if you re-name PT11? That's a trick I and others use to have co-installs of Digital Performer 9.02 and 9.1 (the reasons for that are way longer than I really want to go into).

Do you mean rename PT11 and co-install with PT12?

I wouldn't advice playing around with that stuff on the same partition and as we need to have our systems 100% supported since we live off making music and selling to A-List artists in the US I have never played around with those combos. I am afraid of mucking up something as PT is soo finnicky and easily irritated hehe

We left PT10HD the day HD11 came out and haven't used or opened HD10 since that day

3 of our 4 Macs are still on OSX 10.8.5 and that has been awesome for us.

Then you have two versions of the Pro Tools application installed.

You would not have two versions of all the necessary files installed. Why? Because the installer application installs other files on your startup volume. If you install v11.x first, rename the app, then install v12.x, then launch v11.x, there is no guarantee that v11.x will either launch or operate properly since the most recent install was v12.x.

Try it at your own risk. Alternatively, just run v12.3.1. It's basically v11.3.1 with bug fixes and some new features (I/O setup), track commit, etc.

I brought the renaming up because it works perfectly with Digital Performer. It doesn't matter which version of DP9 is installed first - they both open just fine with each having their own preferences and such. I just thought that maybe PT would work the same. Yes there are two versions of the DP application installed.

No.

PT's 10 is just not right. above 10.9.5 (Needed for other apps not using 10.8 and below (NI))

Use OS 10.8.5 instal and only upgrade OS to 10.9.5 if needed. OS's after that Pro Tools 10 wonks out.
Keep a partition for PT's 10 (OS 10.8.5 ideally) (Needed for and sessions with SD2 files and ultra-vintage session needs.

Avid really needs to get the import-session conversions current.

Possible? Yes.
Supported? No.
Feasible? Perhaps not.
