Default best video capture ?

I am on the lookout for a simple, reliable and versatile system to capture video on G4 to quicltime and play back the movies with PT in a seamless fashion, with video output to TV monitor. Are the AV ad AV/XL the only options ?
Things move fast in this domain so I wondered if there was any new miracle hardware.

Any practical advice welcome !

Do a search in this forum for Canopus ADVC-100. That's what I have been using for a couple of months and like it.

Hi Chris,
Regarding your playback drives, are you in the SCSI camp or the FW camp? We find the Canopus to be a FW hog. No hub allowed, no second FW port usage allowed, only 1 or 2 drives in a chain with the Canopus at the end. Are you using FW playback drives, high track counts, big edits, AND the Canopus? We could not. OK because we are still in the SCSI camp.
We discovered that the Canopus connected through a hub was causing PT SCSI crash problems. We connected Canopus directly, and SCSI is fine. Quite the oblique interaction I say...
It seems to us that when we use the Canopus, we can use very few other FW devices. Is this the same for other Canopers?

I capture and play back my movies via an internal SCSI card connected to my ATTO card. I did once playback from an iPod without knowing it. I thought I had transferred the movie to my hard disk and it wasn't until a few hours later that I noticed it was playing off the iPod. It wasn't a huge session though. Mostly MIDI. and about 8 audio tracks.
