An Analog to DV/Firewire converter like the Canopus ADVC-100 is a great way to get video into a G4. No need to clog up the PCI bus.

Do you mean output Quicktime to an NTSC monitor? Yes. In PT 5.31 this capability is built in. Earlier versions would require third party software called EchoFire. If you do a search in this forum for "canopus" you will find a lot of info.

That depends Angelo. You haven't clearly stated that you want to use Firewire for video. For 5.1 to use dv you need echofire. But you can use quicktime with PT that is not dv encoded, such as with a miromotion or aurora pci card.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">If you use a Firewire/DV converter like the Canopus and you are running 5.1 you need EchoFire if you want to playback DV video on an external TV monitor. You can import video using the Canopus and play it back in a quicktime window without EchoFire. You only need it if you want to send the DV out of your Mac to a TV. This functionality has been built-in to PT 5.3 and I assume will be available to both HD and Mix owners starting with PT 6. The other good thing about using Firewire/DV converter over PCI cards is that we know the Canopus and others currently work in OS X. Miro card doesn't, Aurora Fuse doesn't. Aurora Igniter does, but costs about $1000.
