old iLok badly damaged, what to do to transfer to new iLok?

I have one of the ancient, original blue iLoks. I was fishing around behind my computer to check some connections and accidentally leaned against it, bending the connector relative to the plastic housing. It's pretty much toast, but I can maybe get it to connect if I hold and push it just so.

Since Protools requires the iLok to run, I obviously need a new iLok. Some suggested transferring the license on the iLok to my machine, but I have two machines with PT installed (one at my home office where I mix and one at the band rehearsal space where I record). Transferring the license to one machine or the other is not an option.

It has been soooo long since I dealt with my licenses or iLok that I have no idea what to do or how to proceed. Can some please advise me?

I figured I'd buy this iLok 2 but I'm unsure if it will work with my hardware. I'm also wondering what must be done with the iLok to transfer my old license to the new iLok.

I'm running Protools 9. I have two nearly-identical rigs running windows 7. One has a Digi 002 console and the other has the Digi 003 rack console.

Any advice would be much appreciated. I was really hoping to finish some long-gestating recording projects during the Holidays when work is slow.

Hi,

I would try a USB extender cable and see if you can get it to be stable long enough to return the licences to your account or move them to a new ilok.

either ilok 1 or the new ilok 2 will work fine. you can not have the auths on your computer!! Pro Tools licences do not allow this.

At worse and it fails completely you can send it to ilok.com and they will confirm the licences and replace them into your account. this has a cost. check all the details at ilok.com regarding zero downtime and TLC theft and loss coverage.

Of you want to stay with the times and not have to buy yet another ilok 2 when you need it for upgrades you should definitely get the ILOK2 and not the ilok1.

Right. There are many reasons to move on to ilok2.
