Default Re: Single 34'' monitor for pt?

I prefer one big monitor than two smaller ones.

I can switch between Mix and Edit/Arrange easily.
Logic's key commands and Pro Tools cmd= controls are assigned to the control surface.
I never need to be working on both windows at once and I don't like twisting to see the outer edges of the screens.
Also, with two monitors you end up with two bezel's right at the centre, which is annoying.

One big monitor for me.

I'm on 2 24" right now (Win 7) . I looked seriously at a single 35" but it was too tall for my current setup. I saw one demoed with DAW and it looked like it wouldn't be too bad if you have edit and mix windows stacked instead of side by side as I have right now. Less scrolling from side to side , more scrolling up and down. I've thought of running it through a spare 42 HDTV I have sitting gathering dust just to see if I like the different workflow but I haven't got around to it. If you have a spare tv maybe you could try it and see what you think.

Default Single 34'' monitor for pt?

Unless you guys have your screen really far back at a low resolution, your monitors (speakers) must be very far apart.

I use a 27" (2560 x 1440) monitor with the speakers either side with a small space between the screen and monitors and I'm bang in the sweet spot.

There's only one image in this thread so far and unless that person is sitting quite far back from the desk (which I doubt they are) the speakers seem really far apart.

I use single monitor and I like it. Here's why:

1) brings my genetics closer and therefore presents me better stereo image
2) mixer window doesn't really need much vertical space
3) edit window doesn't really need much horizontal space
4) you need screen estate for other things too

Combine points 2 and 3 and you'll notice that you actually need three things for PT: one "wide" screen for mixer window, one "vertical" screen for edit window, and one normal screen for other things.

So, if you have a single monitor and set your edit window to far left as high as it gets, taking only so much horizontal space as you really need, and put your mixer window right next to it on top of your screen, you have nice space for other things

2 x 24" monitors for PT and a centre one for picture. No problems with the sweet spot here.

Hmmm.... I think we have different interpretations of sweet spot.

Assuming you're sitting where the desk finishes, this speakers look too far apart to me.

If it works for you, keep on rocking. Not how I would have it set up though.

Are you talking about my image?

As I sit at the desk, the JBL 308's are 4" beyond my outstretched arms, and are aimed at my ears. They're not too far apart, really. The IK iLouds are laying sideways and are very close (on the top shelf), as is the Tivoli Model One (mono) speaker. I stay in the sweet spot, and switch between 3 speaker sets using the Presonus Central Station. By the way, the 43" (or maybe it's a 42" - I forgot) is a 1080P TV, and the other 2 are 24" 1080P monitors. Works for me !!!

Centre to centre the speakers are 1m 70cm apart, and like EGS they are at head height aimed at my ears. The same goes for the rear pair. In stereo I get a perfect phantom centre and great imaging. I like a large soundstage as I'm creating and mixing for special venue productions.
