What is the correct way to do it?

You should turn on the HD I/O, wait for it to initialize, then turn on the computer.

Re: Power on the HD I/O before the computer?
Hanni… I think it's good for the PCIe card to get a "handshake" with the HD IO when the CPU machine is powered up. I always go in this order; Sync IO, wait for it to settle , HD IOs, any hubs, then the CPU last.

Re: Power on the HD I/O before the computer?
I concur with priorytools "I always go in this order; Sync IO, wait for it to settle , HD IOs, any hubs, then the CPU last. "
Although Noted by Cliffy_Boy (I also agree) if no chassis is involved or other master clock (i.e. simple systems) I/O power on can wait all the way until Pro Tools prompts you that it's not detected. Also in some trouble shouting leaving I/O's off until prompted has been helpful. So Juhanni, seeing as you haven't listed you specific setup you have a variety of process workflows. As PT Lover suggests, read the manual (Reference Guide).

Re: Power on the HD I/O before the computer?
Shouldn't matter in real world, but is a good practice to have everything turned on before the computer starts.
