Re: #8 Top DAW
That's a common misconception; technically it's Polaritybook.

Re: #8 Top DAW
What's also funny is they have the wrong image for the software. I think they're using a shot of DP instead of PT.

Re: #8 Top DAW
I'd be curious if they went back and asked the same 5000 people this-
"If you decide to pony up some money and work in a for hire studio, what DAW do you expect them to be running?" Do we think Ableton would still be #1? |

Re: #8 Top DAW
Good question! There's a reason the top recording arts schools, like, say Full Sail University in Orlando, FL, or the recording arts program at Indiana University almost exclusively teach Pro Tools! Hello!!!

Re: #8 Top DAW
fact is Pro Tools USED to be top dog because of Stability first and foremost -automation, sound quality of tdm plug ins, hardware acceleration and power when computers couldn't handle it on their own for large sessions.
In Post world and Anywhere recording live inputs a lot it still is tops. Everywhere else is Way more up in the air. As simple a music production, composing, creative tool its FAR behind. Thats no secret and the gist of those surveyed shows this. It's strengths lie in areas that your average 2015 music creator rarely take advantage of. Its still my DAW of choice after over 10 years of daily use. BUT, like many others I'm considering other options. I spend MOST of my time creating music. Dance Music, Downtempo and the like. Electronic music (Grammy Nominated best Remixed Recording in 2003). BUT I also utilize live recording elements from time to time for the first 8 years I did all of this in Logic w/TDM, then 10 yrs in Pro Tools software. The next 10 or so is yet to be determined. 4 years ago I was rock solid in my determination to stay in avid land. Now not so much. Seems others are in the same boat from what I read around here. It also seems most wish to stay with PT but avid is making it harder and harder to keep our heads around it. No Brainer in work for hire studios and post production, TV Film... Creatives... HMMMM.. . . . . .

Re: #8 Top DAW
For all of the negative comments about it, the poll does show that a certain market segment considers PT all but irrelevant. A few years ago Avid made a serious attempt to get into the home studio and self-produced market. It appears that effort was less than successful.
Yes, you would still expect to see PT in a "for hire" recording studio. But the chances are just as good that you would see PT8 or PT9 running as you would the most current version. Quote:

Re: #8 Top DAW
The one question I asked when I got serious about upgrading my studio nearly 10 years ago was "What do the pros use?" Hands down the answer was PT, so that's what I went with. I started on PT 7.0 (although I had worked with Sound Tools several years earlier on a project with a friend of mine). After nearly 10 years of using it, learning it and getting used to it, I can't imagine starting over with some other DAW... I don't care if it can dance and do my dishes. I don't want to go through all the investment of time (and money) all over again. Besides, I think PT is great!!
