Very convincing tracking and mixing! Keep it coming!
I'm interested in developing my skills in recording, programming and mixing music in that same genre that your song is.

Scorpio253, would you be kind enough to share your complete singnal path for the vocals in this song? I think it would courage me and others to get more out of our equipment and plugins.

P.S. Is it just me or is there some (digital) distortion going on in the song?

Here is a song I've engineered & mixed, if you have any pointers please do share. (I also dont like how my EQs turn out. Theres a freq that needs to be cut and boosted but I just cant seem to figure it out.) I could never seem to mix my vocals the way I could others

Thanks for your help

How long have you been mixing your own vox?
Maybe you have to first get a handle on how it really sounds, and not how you want it to sound.

In general. compression will not make your voice fatter, unless your using a particular comp known this kind of tonal quality.

You will need to do other things.

It sounds like your singing more from the throat than the chest, which will produce a thinner sound. That's not necessarily bad, it may be what works with the tune.

That said, the only ways I can see to make them fatter is:

1) Sing more from your chest to get more low end. Make sure that if your mic as a low pass filter, it's not on (you can always scoop out some low end with an eq.

2) Use a doubler (I prefer Waves Doubler myself). The Waves doubler has good presets. But don't expect a Eureka moment with the doubler. The effect should be subtle and added with other (simple) fattening techniques.

3) EQ - find the range in your vocals that you want to stand out. Don't increase this on your vocal track, however; decrease this range on other instruments. With EQ, it's best to avoid increasing gain and best to decreas gain. Most of the time, cutting frequencies gives a much better result than boosting them. Depending on how much low end you get, you may even have to scoop out some bottom to stop it from being 'boomy'.

4) Create a stereo flanged duplicate track of the vocals. This is hit or miss. Sometimes it makes it fatter, sometimes the reverse but something worth trying. Give it a whirl and see how it sounds. As with any other effect, you'll need to blend it in appropriately.

5) Do all of these things to fatten it up, then slap a harminic exciter on it to brighten it. This will brighten it without losing the lows.

Hope this helps.

Don't mean to be ignorant here, but what are BGV's?

Discogs makes you call them "Backing Vocals." Which actually sounds more correct to me.

Background Vocals or Backing Vocals?
