Default PC CRASH

I am using a PC with 1ghz of ram and a 2.2ghz processor, using a digi 002 with pro-tools 7.3.

Everything is fine with the system until i started mixing, if i am using a lot of tracks with alot of processing, the system will litterily come to a stand still, the track will start to stutter and do thing's very slowly. Could anyone give me a solution to this problem, i am usng busses on all the tracks and i have increased the playback engine and all of that.

Please can someone help, as it is taking out all the fun out of my mixing and slowing down my project...

Are you recording to a physically second hard drive (not just a separate partition). You should not record and mix from the system drive.

This seams like you are reaching the limits of your pc processing power .Try to add 1 more giga of ram and maybe a faster processor?

simliar setup to yours...2.26ghz P4, 2g ram. you are more than likely maxin' out the system. make sure you've done all the tweaks listed (shuttin' down all unnecessary processes, etc) and get ready to upgrade!! just not a lotta horses under the hood my friend. but for 5 to 6 yr old technology, i'd say we both have gotten our money's worth!!
