Default 2012 Macbook Pro, PT 2019.12 - Biting off more than I can chew?

Hi. New here. New to Pro Tools. I've installed 2019.12 and a host of plugins to my Mid 2012 Macbook Pro, 2.6 GHz i7, 16 GB. I haven't really gotten into using it yet, I've been reading and watching tutorials first. I wasn't planning on doing any heavy-duty recording and mixing with the program, at least not in the beginning. Anyway, I was reading AVID's article on System Requirements and Compatibility, and under the MacBook Pro section my model is all the way down at the bottom. Here's what it says:

Quote:
Supported Processors (Pro Tools | Ultimate, Pro Tools | HD & Standard):
Mid 2012 15" MacBookPro9,1 Quad-Core i7 'Ivy Bridge' 2.6 GHz

Supported Processors (Pro Tools Standard only):
Mid 2012 13" MacBookPro9,2 Dual-Core i7 'Ivy Bridge' 2.9 GHz
(not recommended for Pro Tools with FireWire interfaces)

Supported Software:
Pro Tools 2018.1 - Pro Tools 2018.4

Supported System (Pro Tools | Ultimate, Pro Tools | HD):
HDX (up to 3 cards), HD Native PCIe & ThunderBolt

Supported System (Pro Tools Standard):
Supported Audio Interfaces (listed below)
So there under Supported Software, since it says 2018.1 - 2018.4, does that mean the version I installed, 2019.12, is not supported? It boots up, and it runs, but can I expect trying to use it with my system to be filled with frustration and hangups? If that's the case, is there somewhere I can find the 2018 software until I can afford to upgrade my system? Under My AVID and My Products where I downloaded the 2019 software, it has a link to 2019.10, then it jumps to 11.3.2 (under Pro Tools Legacy). Am I okay, or do I need to rethink my situation?

According to Avid it isn't supported - probably because they haven't tested it to any extent. I use 2019.12 on a 2011 MacBook Pro with no problems. I have swapped the system drive for an SSD and installed the maximum RAM which really helped it run faster, and I record to a Lacie Thunderbolt SSD drive when I use the MBP but haven't experienced any problems running the latest Pro Tools. I was without my main rig for a couple of months when I moved and the MBP worked fine for recording and mixing some fairly intense sessions. There may come a time when I can't use the latest Pro Tools version - because I can't install the latest OS, but I'm good for now.

Yes, exactly. It does not mean not working. Avid cannot possibly keep testing against very old hardware, so that is why.

Thanks. I feel more confident now. I’ll stop worrying until I actually have a problem. Maybe I’ll upgrade to an SSD internal (if I can find a boot disc of High Sierra) and I’ll check out that Lacie Thunderbolt drive, seeing as I’ve got a Thunderbolt port that’s otherwise unused.

Yeah just make sure you have a backup of a working OS if you decide to upgrade that you can revert back to in case there are issues.
