Default transfer of ownership : Is Avid Support Code (ASC) required

I remember seeing something that a chargeable Avid Support Code (ASC) is required for all transfer of ownerships going forward from Dec 2010
Is this the case ?
eg PT HD ASC $80 per case
eg PT LE ASC $40 per case

thanks in advance
David

I'm pretty interested in knowing this as well, as I have recently bought a M-Box for home use (for doing small edits home instead of driving to the studio)

So far I have the paperwork done, but can't really get further due to the new support system.

Hopefully we will have a answer regarding how to reach Avid Audio without a paid contract for things such as transfer of ownership and repair requests.

Please post information if you happen to find out any information about getting in touch with someone without having to pay. I am pretty sure there has to be a way to speak or contact someone without paying if you have a registered product. I believe this would be a violation of some type of business and consumer rights protocol if this were not the case. (Especially when dealing with attempting to set up warranty repair or registration/transfer of ownership, no technical support requests)

I'm in the same boat, I purchased an 002 Rack before the 19th and just got a free moment to send the form in now but I can not submit the form.

Sigh...

I just tried calling Avid at their support number and I got a recording saying "Thank you for calling Avid Customer Support, our offices are closed for the holiday".

Ugh!

It's 1:50PM EST on Monday, January 3rd!

When holidays fall on weekends it's customary for businesses to be closed the first Monday after. Many places of business were closed today. Even local banks were closed today 1/3/11.

That's probaly what they did.

From my experience most US companies close early when the holiday falls on a weekend (as was the case with Christmas and New Years Day both falling on a Saturday in 2010. In the past my company (and others before it) stayed closed on the Monday after New Years if it landed on a Sunday (nobody would come in anyway).

I can't complain though since my company gave all 16,000 US employes the whole week off after Christmas...

Now I will whine if I have to pay to transfer this hardware. I noticed Avid Video hardware still has the option to submit a ticket for Transfer of Ownership without an ASC.

Alex, transfer of ownership isn't done over the phone anyway. There is a pdf form online that has to be filled out by the seller -- then faxed to the buyer for signature and then faxxed to Avid. None of it can take place over the phone. Therefore it won't cost you -- at least not for ASC support. Unless they just changed things. I did this as recently as 3 weeks ago and it didn't cost anything. But we did just start a new year.. So I guess -- who knows...
Here's the link to the page explaining the process and to the form you can download.

UPDATE: [HEY -- that page looks different now than when I did it a few weeks ago--- all bets are off, dude..]

There is no way to get a e-mail or phone call through without a ASC code as far as I can tell. Hopefully someone from Avid will clear this up soon!

A user who needs a repair or a transfer of ownership should have a way to get through to someone via either voice or e-mail without a ASC number.

this webpage is hidden at the moment as I think Avid are still deciding on ASC for transfer of ownership

http://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/self...p?DocId=363631

How do I submit a Transfer of Ownership form for Avid Audio (Digidesign) hardware? [363631]

To register used Avid Audio (Digidesign) hardware, you will need to fill out a Transfer of Ownership Form. Registration entitles you to participate in the Avid Hardware Exchange Program and certain repair services for your hardware. Please download and print the form, fill it out, and follow the directions below.

If you are selling a used system, you should fill out the seller's portion of the Transfer of Ownership Form and include it with the sale.

After the buyer and seller have completed and signed the Transfer of Ownership form, you will need to submit your scanned copy by following the directions below.

Transfer of Ownership Form

Download the Acrobat PDF:

Digidesign Transfer of Ownership Form

To submit the Transfer of Ownership form, please email [email protected] with 'Transfer of Ownership' as the subject of the email--without this there might be a considerable delay in processing your request.

You will need to include the following information for the registration to be processed correctly:

First and Last Name
Address
Country
Phone Number
Product
Product Serial Number

After your email has been received, you will receive an automated response from Avid Customer Success ([email protected]) so please make sure that this email address is not blocked by a spam or junk filter on your email account.

At this point you will need to reply to the automated response email and attach a legible, scanned copy of your Transfer of Ownership form to the message. We will process your registration after the email with your form attachment is received.

Maybe they are sick of Dumb Asses calling in....I bet out of every 1000 that call in 1 or 2 have a legit problem and the rest could of been solved by a little research or common sense... I thought everyone loves Capitalism? You will be conditioned to accept this.... and they know it.
Maybe they are assessing Value to tech support.... Who says it is suppose to be free???
