Default I/O Noob Questions

I am new to Pro Tools, and I am having a bit of a hard time configuring everything. I purchased an MBox 2 with Protools 8 LE, and I am not able to get signal from my mic. I have made sure my phantom power is engaged, that record is engaged on the audio track, and still, it picks up nothing when I record.

I was able to use a midi controller to use some virtual instruments but I can't seem to figure this out. Please have some patience with me

read over I/O in the manual

I'm guessing you don't have the correct input set up

You have to select the input you are using in the Mbox on the mix channel your using to record.

Go to Setup>I/O>Input tab and click on Default. In that window you can see what the inputs are called(you can also rename them here). Check the Mic/DI switch on the Mbox. You are using the XLR input?(phantom does not work on the TRS inputs).

As Albee said, check your i/o settings. Once you have that ok create a new mono audio track. On the input section, the top one of the 3 rectangular boxes over your pan, make sure that it is set to 'IN 1' Record arm the track and turn up the gain on your MBox input until you see a good level on the new audio track. record that and take record arm off and that should be it I think. It's odd describing it from the office and not the studio! There is a Pro Tools 101 book available which you would probably find very, very useful as you are new to it. It will detail all the basic procedures for you and would get you on your way.
