RCA to 1/4 inch cable from dj mixer = no signal

Hello. I am new to the forum and new to audio recording and ProTools.

I am a vinyl dj and want to record a live dj mix. My dj mixer has RCA output only. I purchased a RCA-to-1/4-inch cable, but when I plug the 1/4 inch end into the TRS inputs on my MBox, i get no input signal.

I have a diffferent mixer, which I do not prefer to use, which has 1/4-inch outputs. With this mixer, I simply use 2 balanced TRS cables (L and R) and run them from the dj mixer to the MBox, and I get a signal.

I would like to use the first mixer with the RCA outputs if possible. What am I doing wrong? Is it that the RCA-to-1/4-inch cable I am using is not balanced TRS? Do I have to buy RCA-to-balanced-TRS adaptors?

I am not sure I quite understand the difference between 1/4-inch and 1/4-inch TRS. Maybe this is part of the problem.

what input setting did you have the MBox set to?
you are going to need Line or DI and I'm going to guess that it was in the default Mic setting.

what you want to do should work fine but you may also have bad cables
