Default Pro Tools & Hardrive Problem

If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated...I have a 9600 w/256MB of RAM and a Adaptec 2940UW SCSI Card sitting amongst a MixPlus System w/ and an older DSP Farm also. I have two Seagate 10,000 rpm Cheetah swaps (Model ST318404LW) formatted with FWB version 3.0.2. When working in Pro Tools 5.0.1, every so often I will enlarge a track, launch a plug in, or edit a waveform, and that little tapping hand will appear for about 10-15 seconds until a message comes up reading...DAE is unable to complete this task...Disk may be too slow or fragmented. After Clicking OK, I am unable to do anything without the Mac Crashing. Also when running Norton 5.0 on the drive, it crashes during the "checking media" test. ? ? ? -Thanks in advance

TRY DECREASING THE BUFFERSIZE IN SETUPS OR PURCHASE FASTER DRIVES. GETS WORSE WHEN USING EDITED MIDI REGIONS TOO, SO CONSOLODATION IS THE WAY FORWARD. LESS ADDRESSING TIME.

You might check the drive. I have heard reports that some of the drives ending in ..404LW are having a sticking problem. I know someone who had this problem. If you have a different drive, copy the audio files to it, but leave the disk allocation set to the 404 drive. If the problem comes up, switch the disk allocation to the new drive and see if it persists. If it fixes the problem, I would refer to the warantee info! Goodluck

On 2nd thought, changing the disk allocation alone wont change the drive that the files are playing from. you may have to drag the 404 drive to the trash!
