Anyone know specifics on the 001 plugins?

Anyone caught in the mindset that "If I can just wait alittle longer I'm sure something better will come out"? This happens to me sometimes and I get soooo frustrated.

look, bro, there is ALWAYS something better that is coming out (you don't think digi already has the floor plan for the digi 002?)

the point is, these are merely tools.....get what you can afford to buy, and what will accomplish your immediate goals, what feels the best, what fits into your existing/long term plans/try to envision it playing into your long term goals....and make some killer tunes.

THE GUY WHO BOUGHT THE FIRST FOUR TRACK DIDN'T BEAT HIMSELF UP over the fact that two months later the newer one came out with two more inputs! This is the same thing.

I am going with what I think works for me, what I can build into my setup and build upon later on without being trapped into ALWAYS needing to grasp at the newest and latest because it looks good in a magazine.

Ask any MAJOR WORKING PRO: even tdm pro tools guys, some are using 6 year old macs, some are using old software, there is just so much stuff out there now that to keep waiting and waiting, you will never get anything done!

I say, make the jump into one of these, don't look back, and get down to recording! Learn what you have, and try to master it as a creative tool! Every piece of technological gear you already own (from your car to your vcr) is the same exact thing -the minute you take it out of the box it's about six months out of date and worth 50% less.

if it makes you great music, whether it's the 001 or the 1224/2408 or the roland vs1680 or the tascam 424 cassette machine, and YOU LOVE WORKING ON IT, none of this other bs matters!

now go make some music.....ALL OF YOU!

Great post lespaul. You offer some very good advice.

Here's my question: I've heard that MOTU has already been writing software that will utilize the altivec technology in the new MAC's and make for much faster and better performance. I'm wondering if anyone knows that digi will be doing the same? It just seems crazy to spend so much on a computer for it's added features if the software you are running is not taking advantage of it.

The 001 is not for everyone, its for people who want to make music in there home studios, not people who want to post feature length films for a $1000. What Digi is offering is a package that gives a musician the tools he/she needs to create without reading a *&!?$& manual (and without crashing your Mac.;-) Believe me, I've tried every sequencer and so called recording software there is and nothing works as good as Protools, or even comes close. I have a TDM system and I cringe at the thought of working without my Protools rig.

Have you tried Digital Performer 2.6?

Limiter, compressor, gate, short delay, slap delay, medium delay, long delay and Dverb until dec. 31st.

These are the plugins that come stock with the system. Bomb factory, duy, waves and grm tools are supporting this rtas (real time audiosuite) format as well.

No doubt that the 001 is a better purchase. Way less latency than the 2408, pro tools is compatiable with most major studios so you can walk your sessions in or out of just about any studio.

My only complaint would be that you can't talk to anyone at digi about the 001 unit. But then have you ever tried to call MOTU -- that's a fricken joke.

Most of the guys in the guitar centers know nothing about this product and you will have to hope that digi makes some kind of presence in this conference so IT'S CUSTOMERS can get informed information about this product.

Why so few a variety in plug ins I wonder. No pre amp? No chorus? No flange?

What is Latency anyway? I'm kinda new to harddrive recording.

I do use Digital Performer for some sequencing and I really don't care for it much. I've been messing around with PT 5.0 LE at a local dealer to see how good the midi is. And I'll tell you this, the basic functionality of the sequencer is great, it doesn't have all the stuff that you might find in DP. But for me its all the stuff that I don't use anyways. And if you are going to be recording music and over dubbing, I would go for the 001. Like Carlone said the latency is way better on the 001. Latency is the amount of delay you get between input to output, basically the amount of time it takes for the signal to be converted to digital routed through the software and then come back out and converted to analogue.
