Fast track ultra 8r standalone
Hi,
Im very new here just recently registered as a memeber. Id like to know if the m-audio fast track ultra 8r could be set in standalone mode. i cant seem to find any details about it on the users manual and been searching all over google but couldnt get an answer. the next question would be: Since i have 2 FTU8R and want to connect these two together to get 16 in/out, is it possible to do so connecting both to SPDIF in out? i believe i need to make one FTU8R to work in standalone mode and be able to route the standaloned moded units`s Ins directly to its outs. like input 1 to output 1. and in 2 to out 2 etc... thanks in advance. Re: Fast track ultra 8r standalone
I don't believe the 8r works in standalone mode, no. Also, the SPDIF is 2 channel only, what you're looking for is an ADAT in/out which the 8r does not have.
"MIDI and S/PDIF Connector (MIDI S/PDIF) – The accompanying breakout cable connecting to this multi-pin jack provides MIDI input and output on 5-pin DIN connectors, and S/PDIF input and output on coaxial RCA connectors. • When the Sync Source drop-down menu is set to “External” in the Control Panel, input channels 7 and 8 will receive their signal from the S/PDIF input instead of analog inputs 7/8. • The S/PDIF output signal is identical to the output of Line Outputs 7/8. • The S/PDIF output will also support pass-through of AC-3 or DTS encoded surround formats." If you wan't to get 16 channels, you'll have to find another device that either has 16 pre's or an 8 pre with ADAT in. Joel

Re: Fast track ultra 8r standalone
Thanks joel for clarifying my question.
I also have an maudio fw 1814 which only has 2 preamp ins and the rest is just ts inputs 3-8. My second question is, is it possible to route the ins 1-8 of the ftu8r to the outs 1-8 so that i can connect the outs from the ftu8r to the firewire 1814s input 3-8? That way i dont have to get another preamp to connect to the firewire 1814.
