Default Mac PT 9 and NTFS

Hi everyone - I'm migrating from PTLE on Windows to PT9 on Mac - never used a mac before for PT.

Can I use a windows NTFS formatted drive on PT for Mac?

It said to set the volume to "R" (record), but can't because it says the drive is locked. Is this because it's a windows-formatted drive?

Is there a way to make this work?

I noticed when I installed PT9 on Win 7 that there was an optional install (HDS? or something) that would allow windows to read Mac PT sessions - haven't tried this, but is there a way to make everything (sessions, drives, etc.) ambidextrous ?

Thanks

Windows has HFS+ support because Mac format drives are the drives of choice in this industry.

You're much better off having a Mac OS formatted drive for Pro Tools than anything else in an OSX environment.

So does that mean it's not possible? I have 3+ years of PT data on Windows/NTFS. If I move to Mac how do I access that stuff?

Put it on a new drive...

The only thing you can do with an NTFS drive on Mac is read from it. So you could still plug it in and transfer stuff, but you can't use it for much else.

Install NTFS-3G on your mac system so you can acces the ntsf disk... copy the sessions from your ntsf disk to your mac disks

At least thats how I do it... when someone comes in with a ntsf disk.

Good luck,

Johnny

You shouldn't need another piece of software just to access the disk.

My Mac reads NTFS disks just fine... just won't write to it.

Thanks everyone - I can read from NTFS on mac - just can't write, so you've confirmed my suspicion.

Now if only IK Multimedia would stop asking me to authorize my plug-ins after I've authorized them... but that's another thread.

Thanks all
- Chris

After many experiments, as I posed on the -9126 errors;
With some of the NTFS software you can get it to work, but the
case sensitivity stuff just messes it all up.
Because, theoritcally, I should be able to boot into windows, record session on NTFS, boot into mac, have it work. It's fine until the temp files
are made and then it blows up.
