OSX Yosemite partition on spinning drive to SSD
Hello,
Current state of affairs: I've been running PTHD 10/11 for years from an SSD on a Hex-Core Tower (drive 1) running ML. All sample libraries go to a different drive (drive 2) as do all PT projects (drive 3). In order to evaluate PT12.3 I created a partition on yet another internal drive (drive 4) and installed my complete environment (plugs, instruments, etc.). Now satisfied with 12.3, I'm prepared to clone the WD partition (drive 4) and replace all contents on the SSD (drive 1) with that clone. What is the current recommended procedure? Can this be done effectively with Disk Utility or is there a reason in this scenario I should use CCC or something else? Thank you for any guidance and please pardon my OSX ignorance! |

Re: OSX Yosemite partition on spinning drive to SSD
What keeps you from using CCC?
Don't know if you can do that with disk utility, but I've been doing this exact scenario countless times using CCC, and I can only recommend it. It's easy to handle and just works. It automatically clones the recovery partition as well.

Re: OSX Yosemite partition on spinning drive to SSD
Thanks for the reply. Nothing keeps me from CCC. Just didn't know if that is what I should use or if DU would do the trick.

Re: OSX Yosemite partition on spinning drive to SSD
If you were going to do this with Disk Utility, you would select a partition and then use the Restore tab to specify the source and the destination. The other option would be to use Apple Software Restore in Terminal. man asr from the command line.

Re: OSX Yosemite partition on spinning drive to SSD
Haven't done it in a while from DU, but don't see why it wouldn't work. OTOH, CCC is definitely easy and a nice utility to have around.

Thanks; going with CCC was good advice.
