Inserts are "post" track, right?

This is probably a dumb question, and I don't know the answer because I've never tried it. Inserts are always post track, right? I.e. plugs inserted on a channel in record, will not record the plug, right? There's no re-routing when the red light is on, is there?

I'm pretty sure I know the answer, but I want to make sure and I'm not in my studio to try it.

Yes inserts on an audio track are not recorded. But inserts on an aux track bussed to an audio track could be used to record a plugins effect.
