Default Anybody tried iSCSI over 10Gb ethernet?

I was wondering if anyone has experience with both 1Gb and 10Gb and ethernet with an iSCSI SAN storage system and what kind of performance one can expect.

I don't think ProTools supports recording to/playing from harddrives over a network, does it? At least not yet.

I don't have my 10 GB NIC cards yet but I plan on trying it when they come in

NeveSSL,

You can record to a SAN system over a network (Gb ethernet or Fiber) because the drives appear on the desktop and behave like drives connected directly to your computer.

Hi Mike
are you using a iscsi San at the moment? I would recommend checking with the manufacturer first.
Not all iscsi San systems are usable for recording with protools. There are a few that work with Protools by fooling it in to believing the raid is a single local drive (StudioSan is one) . Just because the drive appears on the desktop does not mean it will be recognized by Protools as a 'local' drive. Wish it would though :)
Pete

Hi Petevsi,

I'm no longer using the iSCSI device. It was a StudioNetworkSolutions x-4. It worked fantastic with 7.3, but then completely bombed with 7.4. That was when I gave it back.

I always felt the problem with iSCSI is the packet size is same as TCP/IP networking. Where SANs use larger packets and streams. Are you modify the packet size to run iSCSI?
