Default Pro Tools 12 Review

Guys ... I have tried fooling around a bit with a new session in Pro Tools 12 without a clean installation and I have to admit the guys really did a good job in making this version VERY stable !! Now it is debatable whether this version should be called 11.4 or 12 ... and whether us who payed for the upgrade plan was worth the money ... well for me at least it fixed a Long battle with stability with pro tools 11 ...

Their plan sounds more like the WUP by Waves which was long hated and caused people to switch from Waves as the industry standard plugins to other directions ... Softube, SoundToys, etc ...

I have to admit moderators in here are VERY VERY helpful ... they did reply very fast by sending me the installers and a temporary license until the issue get fixed.

It's almost certain coordination was simply inexistent and for such a release people at Avid should have thought about making the release as fluid as possible ...

Check the competitors, Steinberg, Apple, Propellerheads ... we never had any issues when they released new versions ...

I do suggest however avid should definitely hire people from those competitors above ... I am a financial consultant and I know how things work but Mr. Hernandez is definitely choosing the wrong directions ... if you want to steer the company back on track you can't rest on your laurels my friend ... beat the competition

i would love to share your feelings and thoughts but i simply can't...
for me all this "64 bit transition" is an epic fail...
yes, i can adress more memory now, but wait, more than 40% of memory usage
is now allocated to "video engine" that is supposed to be just a simple video player (as it was since ver. 5 till 10), so now that monster eats up the space that SHOULD be reserved for loading up more samples and general audio usage...
and makes many machines obsolete for doing things they actually can handle pretty well...
not anymore...
i think 90% of the problems people have with "bad codecs" come from avid's decision to simply implement video engine ram eating monster from their video products as MC to PT,
but PT doesn't need that at all, it needs just a simple video player...
regarding the "new version" launching mess, we have seen this before with the ilok crisis during pt 11 launch (or was it 10?)
finally, the way avid treat their "most valuable" HD users is ridiculous...
unfortunately those things happen when salesmen runs the show...

Glad you see it. Bob is bad for the company period.

It was false adverting to announce features that was not included. And that is illegal.
This is an update and AVID is trying ti get around the "charge" aspect. However, they sold PT12 as having certain things that are not in PT12.

Time to sue

Not yet. Can you say for certain they will not be added during the time you have the upgrade and support plan active?

No. PT12 was advertised with these features that were not included.

Sorry dude. You can make excuses for AVID. They lose this one big time. And it is going to cost them.

I am sure they are well aware of what is happening .... we were never in a hurry ... let them take the time to implement these features and we will be more than happy ...

Sorry I just can't do that. AVID ignored the users and barely even answered anything of concern.
They haven't even made an HD policy yet.

They advertise features, release it under a new version number and charge for it.

Sorry. Gonna sue

Its done!

Yea I Agree ... I mean look at Steinberg ... they have got Nuendo which is similar to Pro Tools HD ... what's all that silly policy about CPTK + PT = Square Root of 12 Times Logarithm of Alpha ...

I mean come on guys ... Price it accordingly and let people buy into it as a PT Vanilla

Conclusion: HIRE New People or Let some other company Acquire the rights for Pro Tools

Steinberg finally listened when users left.

AVID lost their vision. SO as users we have one choice.

Sue them. They gave the perfect opportunity for it.

Next step

I have to disagree, we need an even stronger video engine with layers for streamers, punches, counter overlay, and PI window overlay w/ opaqueness adjustment

Streamers, punches and counter for Foley, ADR, and Scoring
PI overlay for meters were they are not in the way but visible
