Latency Problem with Digi 002
Hi guys,
I'm have trouble with latency on my Digi 002 rack. When I play my drum tracks I've made there is no problem, but when I try to record a guitar or bass track over the drum tracks the guitars are off beat (a little behind) through my monitors. If I mute the guitar track I'm recording and record with the drums there is no delay in playback. Everything sounds in time when I un-mute the guitar track I just recorded. Any ideas on how to solve this problem? |

Re: Latency Problem with Digi 002
Set your hardware buffer as low as it will go and still play back without errors. Or use Low Latency Monitoring if you don't need any active plugins on the record track or on any aux/inst and master tracks.

How do you do that?

Hi Tom,
I don't have Pro Tools open but I think .....You can change the buffer size from the "Set Up" pull down menu.. Then select "Hardware" and you'll se it at the top. |

Oops forgot... And the "Low Latency Monitering" feature I believe is also in on one of the pull down menus at the top of the screen.
If it is, I just can't remember which one it's under. |

Re: Latency Problem with Digi 002
Hardware is under Playback Engine - second from the top item in the Setup Menu - H/W Buffer Size. Larger sizes give the CPU more breathing room, but make for longer delay on analog throughput. Smaller sizes provide less latency but require more processing power.
Low Latency Monitoring is the bottom item in the Options menu. It bypasses DSP (digital signal processing), using (I think this is right) a digitally controlled analog mixer built into the 002R. IOW, your faders in PTLE control the levels of the mixer, but the audio isn't actually going through PT, it's being mixed to stereo with PT output and sent to the monitors. That way, you can keep your H/W buffer high to use plug-ins on tracks that have already been recorded, but with minimal latency during record.
