Default Pro Tools 11 Standalone?

Hi Guys,
I just have 1 question. I saw in the announcement "more processing power than Pro Tools 10 using the same hardware."

But when PT 9 & 10 were release, it was stated clearly STANDALONE . . .

So is Pro Tools 11 Standalone or are we back to purchasing the Hardware?

Thanks

It's exactly the same as before. You can use it with 3rd party interfaces, or with your computers built in I/O, and so on.

This was stated in the Q and A video last night.

The "hardware" they were speaking of was your computer system. Basically saying, on the exact same computer and set up you have now, PT11 will give you much more processing power.

On that note, I saw that the upgrade path from PT10 CPTK to PT11HD could be had for $999.00.

Does this mean PT 11HD with no PCIE Native card or hardware, or would you get the Native Card along with the $999 upgrade price?

It's just the software, not the card.

The card is useless without an HD interface hooked up anyway.

Just the HD software, no cards or interfaces whatsoever.

Then PT10 CPTK owners will be the only ones able to have a completely native version of PT 11HD?

Could we then at some point purchase or upgrade to HD software only without a native or HDX card?

I'm still very confused here obviously.

The upgrade to the 'HD software only' package is a one time deal for the CPTK owners only. So yes, they will be the only ones to have a properly Native copy of Pro Tools HD.

Wow. Sorry for perpetuating this, but it seems that this is a viable product then. A completely native version of HD without the PCIE card or interface is a very big deal (for me at least). I never thought I would see the day.

Why couldnt Avid then sell the HD software for say $2000.00 for example?

I believe the value placed on the software is $2,600... but it is unavailable without the hardware. Some of the CPTK users still don't seem to realize how fortunate they are with this upgrade deal.

Agreed. My POV is that the transition price is reasonable, and that includes being part of what I would consider a very select crowd, owning PT 11HD with NO hardware whatsoever (holy grail).

I might seems absolutely mad to some folks, but I would consider buying into the HD arena if I could purchase the software alone, even for the above said price.

I would have all HD functionality, keep my current (and improve) workflow, and pave the way for accesible upgrades later down the road. All this while being able to select my hardware of choice. $2600.00 does not seems outlandish to me at this point.
