Default "red target" under RTAS in waves plugs?

On all of my waves plug-ins there is a "red target" underneath the RTAS which you can press or depress (poor thing). I can't find anything relevant on my read-me files or on waves website. I can't hear a noticable difference in sound that might answer this question for me. What does this actually do?

If you depress it and then open another plugin and depress that one you can have multiple plugin windows open.

I wish Pro Tools had tool tips.
For those who may wonder what the heck I mean,
tool tips are the text messages that pop up when you hold the mouse pointer over a control such as
a button. They make the learning process a whole lot quicker.
