Default Export regions(Shft-Cmd-K) command is acting strange

PT HD 7.4.2. G5 PPC dual core 2.1 ghz

I have been having a problem with the "export regions" command
(Shft-Cmd-K).

For example, if I highlight a series of regions in either adjacent or sequentially in the same track and export them to , let's say, stereo wav files for cd burning, the result is either random unrelated regions from that session, (not even from the same track) or in some cases, only one of the selected files even though multiples were selected.

Also, Only once was I able to export properly and only after a full computer reboot, and only on the first attempt after rebooting. Subsequent attempts returned to the malfunction described above.

Has anyone experienced this?

Hi,

Is this on one specific session or is it the same on all sessions? could be session corruption! if so, try using save copy in to create a new session.

also try all the usual trash prefs and database files etc.

use this app... http://duc.digidesign.com/showthread.php?t=190122

Chris,

I did trash prefs, but not databases.
I'll use the app and see what happens, thanks.

This anomaly occurs on any session, not just one in particular.

This has also been acting strangely for me for a little while too, When I export an interleaved stereo Wav file, I also sometimes get mono left and right ones too. Seems fairly random whether it happens or not.
Any ideas please?

Make sure "Region List selection follows Edit Selection" is enabled... after trashing your prefs.

...also, always press Shift+Cmd+D before exporting. If you have recorded and then renamed the file, Pro Tools doesn't update the region list properly. Shift+Cmd+D does that for you. Then select the files, export and you should be fine.

Hope this helps,
Timothy

PT will only export multi-channel-files correctly when they have the correct suffixes. So when you drag two independent mono-files to a stereo track (from an OMF export for example) and then export that PT will write two mono files even when you set it to export "stereo".

To avoid that you fist have to consolidate over that clip or rename them manually.

Frank.

Just a quick video (click here), that shows this little bug. And that Shift+Cmd+D helps getting rid of it.

This seems only to happen if you rename the regions by double-clicking on them. At the end of the video (Files E and F) I rename by using the shortcut Shift+Cmd+R. That way Pro Tools doesn't seem to create two mono files in the region list.

It also has something to do with file sorting by modification date and descending (these are my settings anyway inside the region bin - as that way, I will always have the last imported audio files on top).

Maybe this helps,
Timothy

Thanks for all your replies and suggestions. I tried re-opening a session it had just happened to me in to test out the Shift command D thing and bizarrely I can't get it to do anything but what its supposed to now!!

Maybe closing and opening the session resets it somehow?

Anyway I'll try the method in the video when it happens again, as I'm sure it will. Maybe it does have something to do with sorting the region list by file modification date. I do that too, so my SFX come in at the bottom.

Thanks Again and sorry for hi-jacking the original posters thread. Hope he gets his problem sorted too.

What exactly is not working anymore?

Then maybe try renaming with the shortcut (Shift+Cmd+R). By the way, jumping to the next region is Ctrl+Tab, if you want to rename several files.
Or select all regions and press Shift+Cmd+R - but be aware, with sorting by file modification and descending you name the last recording first (obviously first recording last!)

Maybe this helps,
Timothy
