It's possible to install Waves V7 or V8 (second hand), or should i buy The V9?

Be advised Waves V7 or 8 was authorised by using an Ilok. For V9 Waves moved away from ilok and therefore they do not provide any support for old versions. So, if you buy V7 or V8 then you only will be buying an physical Ilok with the licenses on it and you do not gain actual ownership over the plugins. Therefore, if anything should happen to that ilok you have lost your licenses, nothing to do about it.

Also most engineers using Waves will ask for V9 to be installed.

Actually they do, but in the end the only thing that counts is if the actual plugins they need are installed or not. There is no sound difference between the versions, only number of plugins included in a given bundle depends on the version. What I mean is that Mercury V7 might include less plugins than V8 or V9 did.

Also some engineers ask for V9 to be installed because they travel with their own licenses and they hate to waste time for installation of plugins. This is why I have V7 and V8 and V9 all installed on my Profile and I keep them all Inactive, so whenever someone needs a certain version I just activate and it takes only a couple of seconds to have them in working state.

Hi:
Thanks for your answers. I bought the SSL4000 Bundle from waves these days for ONLY 249usd!
Now, i need to buy a good compressor, a good reverb and a tap delay that could be linked to a function button for real time tapping.
Any suggestions are welcome. Console is for a live band.

Thanks!

If your Profile came with original plugins you already have selection of good compressors, reverbs and delays. Here is some important information about using Waves plugins as they do not support TDM anymore: http://www.waves.com/support/tdm-no-...-v9-6-or-later

If you want Waves stuff, I would look to H-comp and H-delay, and also to C6 multiband comp which seems to be of good use in live situations. And in SSL4000 you already have channel strip comps and bus comp.

And yes, you need to take care about no TDM support in latest Waves version.

Cheers!
