And McDSP, Softube, Sonnox, Flux, Empirical labs, SKnote, Metric Halo and i forget some others.

Plenty of choice. This is not a problem.

Been trying them. A lot of them are amazing. Still looking, though, for something that rivals the Soundtoys harmonic distortion stuff. Also, even though it's a less crucial situation, the Waves plugins are also, so far, not replaceable. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Empirical labs, as in Arouser?
That would be news, (great),
to me at least
as the last time I checked it was still version 1.0

(could add some Kush to your list as well...)

Same for me, and after years of saying I wouldn't give another dollar to waves for their treachery
I was patient for three months,
and won an eBay auction from London on a DLS server
for less than 500 bucks to run my waves as DSP.
Something to consider…

When needing a real sound,
still have to run it out through hardware inserts;
and have tried almost all of the in the box versions including brainworks,
and haven't found anything completely satisfactory.

Haven't seen any mention about the Kush UBK-1, which is DSP.

Of course saturation devices are all over the map sound wise,
but the UBK-1 is worth checking out.
A compression device,
if you push it hard it can work very well to crush drums.
I've also used it to grind out a weak sounding guitar
or add stress to a vocal.

It's a very different animal from decap ,
but a worthy arrow to have in your quiver.

Whereas decap is more of a buzz/fuzz style circuit distortion,
UBK-1 has more of a tape style compression,
which, when hit hard adds a nice squish,
similar to the difference in Heat between clockwise and counterclockwise.

(and on a different note, if you're into parallel EQ,
Greg also makes the Clariphonic MkII in DSP…)

Is the dsp license rolled into the non-dsp version?

I've been using the UBK-1 for years and find it very worthy.

I dont use them anymore, except Q-clone, which was never TDM.
Wich one do you find not replaceable?

and for saturation, did you check PA blackbox and vsm3?
there is also all Dave Hill stuff on the more subtle side.
