Only about 1% use linux, 90% use windows.

Never checked this thread again, so apparently it wasn't that urgent to me either... Point made, clearly

There might be an obvious advantage as Linux supports cloud computing in a way, that if pro tools could be run you would have enough processing on board you could mix at lower samples. You could use older computers( little money) and Linux (free) the only expense would be the network cards as they represent the only bottle neck. So now you can your own mini super computer running your daw!

There's a audio editing program that uses processing nodes on a unix like system. Its called Logic Pro. There's also a patched realtime Linux Distro called AV Linux if you would like something pre compiled. As far as ProTools running in WINE its not going to happen (very efficiently). You could build a Cluster but given the realtime sample accurate demands of audio its likely to be a cluster of an other type. The concept works better for video Render Farms which don't need to process in realtime. Very little in the world of Professional Audio is Free or cheap. But there are worthwhile effects going on in the Linux and open source community. Some like the Harrison MixBux have borne fruit on Linux.

Pro Tools make exchanging projects fairly easy and that's a big part of its popularity.

the only thing that makes me feel like going to linux is related to what some guys in the US are doing to the world.
It has became a civic obligation not to let them spy because they just think they are right in their nevrotic mind. This is [bleep][bleep][bleep][bleep][bleep][bleep][bleep][bleep] and it s clear to me that a country who wants total control on its people is a country that has a lot to be ashamed of.
Please pro tools for linux, just be normal people and contribute to the expansion of free minded people, not nevrotic people. They really need your help
