so does this mean that even though I manually update, and chose not to have the SP2, I've got a little timebomb sitting in my system? If so, what do I do?!? Help,

crackers

I thought I'd try asking again, because the more I think about it, and re-read this thread, the more sure I am that I do have SP2 lurking in the background. When I last did a manual update (before this thread came into being with its permenant blockage advice), I wwent to the update site which first scanned my system to look for critical updates required, then my computer began downloading for a long time, then I had the choice of what I wanted to install. I did not install SP2, but it seems I must have downloaded it - and so it must be in my system, waiting for d-day to rear its ugly head and assert itself as master of my domain (insert maniacle laughter here).

Any advice on what I can do now?

Thanks,

crackers.

Drop it on the floor a few times. Show who's boss.

I don't understand why everyone hasn't got dual boot already. It's easy, it's safe, gives huge security advantages, you can have the PT OS stripped of all inessentials, and you can always boot into another partition to fix things if the one your working in goes down.

BTW Does anyone know exactly what advantages SP2 offers?

A hardware firewall could filter it.

If only there'd been this much discussion when I asked the forum if I needed to go down the dual boot path about a month ago!

I didn't ask for SP2, but I do keep my system updated by manually selecting what I want from the MS update site. Only recently the site has changed and if you let any updates in, SP2 is going to be downloaded with them, just not installed (unless you've 'blocked' it - I wonder).

Anyway, bugger the bloody SP2, I'd rather be playing music than fiddling with my computer set up.

crackers.

I dson't see your problem. It's a plus, isn't it?

You install SP2 on your internet boot up for the added security (but what exactly does it do? Does anyone know?) and you leave your PT boot with SP1 so avoiding any of the problems reported here.
